The American Humanist Association is proud to support our partners in Congress on the reintroduction of the National Day of Reason resolution. As organizational cosponsors, we could not be more thrilled to lift up this timely resolution and the secular, democratic values that it champions. The National Day of Reason resolution designates May 4, 2023 as a day of celebration of critical thought, scientific integrity, and free inquiry. Take just a moment now to contact your House Representative today to encourage them to cosponsor the National Day of Reason resolution!
This resolution, introduced by Congressional Freethought Caucus co-chairs Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-8) and Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-2), celebrates the important roles played by reason and critical thought in our nation’s founding, its social evolutions, and in its continued and necessary improvement. At a time when white Christian nationalists are gaining a terrifying amount of momentum in government, resolutions like this one play an important role in helping us correct the false narrative spun by extremists and make clear that our nation was founded on definitively secular values.
The resolution concludes by encouraging “all citizens, residents, and visitors to join in observing this day and focusing on the central importance of reason, critical thought, the scientific method, and free inquiry to resolving social problems and promoting the welfare of humankind.”
