Humanists must urge our elected officials to pass legislation enacting common sense gun reform now. With the recent racist massacre in Buffalo, New York that took the lives of ten, and the tragic killing of nineteen children and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, it is more clear than ever that Congress must act to protect the lives of our children, loved ones, and community members by passing gun safety measures.
Gun violence claims the lives of thousands of Americans every year, and now, according to disturbing recent Center for Disease Control and Prevention data, firearms were the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States in 2020. A majority of Americans support policy reform on guns—and we must put lives and safety first.
We must demand that our representatives take meaningful steps towards securing the safety of our communities and ensuring that these senseless, preventable killings are stopped, such as voting in support of measures that strengthen background checks.
Take a couple of minutes now to contact your representatives. Ask them to do everything in their power to enact meaningful change, and pass gun reform legislation to bring peace to our communities.
Take action now.
